This Boy

I've been thinking the past few weeks about how much this little dude has changed our lives.  Most of the time when I post on my blog I am posting about the funny or cute things.  And trust me, Josiah sure is funny and cute.  But he also is quite a bit of a crab.  I'm not sure how many of this exact picture I have taken:

It captures something about this stage of life that I know will not last forever.  Having older ones really gives me the confidence to get through these tougher phases because I know for a fact that they do not last forever.

All my kids have gone through their grumpy times, but this little guy seems to have a pretty big case of it.  If my memory serves me right, all of my kids have been happy kids.  I even had a friend tell me recently, "Your kids all seem so happy!"  But there is just something a bit different about Josiah.  He is unhappy...a lot.  I'm not sure what to make of it.  He spends a lot time on my hip b/c that is what often makes him happy.  Many times I am glad to hold him, but on the other hand, having him on my hip for hours of the day really hinders what I am able to accomplish.  There are days when his disposition can really wear me down.

I am trying to figure out life with this little grumpy pants.  What pleases him one day does not please him the next.  Some days he loves to play with his siblings and the next he wants nothing to do with them.  I often wonder what part of his personality is on display here.  He's certainly not my most stubborn or willful child, though of course he is both of those things.  I do know that he does not like extra attention and is NOT a social butterfly.  He just seems to feel safe in the confines of who and what he knows.  One interesting thing about him that is very different from my other kids is that he is a super snuggler.  I have never had a child as affectionate as he is.  He loves to kiss and loves to lay his head on your shoulder.  It's quite dear.

As much of a stinker as he has been lately, it sure has been a fun year in regard to seeing him grow into a little boy.  Just yesterday they were paving the road out in front of us and he was totally fascinated by all the trucks.  His favorite words are, "honk honk, beep beep, and wee-ooh wee-ooh."  A bit ago he wanted a snack (made that known by yelping towards the fridge).  Snack of his choice?  Chipped ham and homemade croutons.  Yes, he is opinionated!!

I am grateful to be in this place as stretching and difficult as it can be at times.  I am learning patience, endurance, and how to manage things when they don't go as I think they should.  This mom journey sure is quite the ride.

Popsicles

It's funny, neither of these boys talk very much but if you look at their faces in these pictures, it looks like they are having a little conversation.  So cute.

Published!!

If you ask Claudia what she wants to be when she grows up, the answer is: a writer.  You know someone loves to do something when they spend their free time doing it.

Over the past 2 years, Claudia has spent hours and hours writing a book.  There is a website that she has been working with that if she finished her story by a certain date, they would give her 5 free copies of her book.  This was very motivating to her!

Just a few weeks back, she finally finished her book!!  I must say I was extremely impressed when I read it.  I am not a writer, esp. of fiction stories.  I'm very proud of her and all the energy and hard work she has put into her story to see it through to the end.

Once the book was published, they put it on Amazon to be up for purchase.  We listed it at the lowest possible price.  If you would like a copy, she does get a small amount of the profit!!

Here is the link to her story:

Girls Day Beach Out Trip '13

About a year ago we began talking with Greta that this summer would be her first chance to go with us on our annual girls trip to the beach.  Sometime along the way she unknowingly changed the name to the "Girls Day Beach Out Trip".  At first we laughed about it and eventually it stuck and we just all began calling it that.

Our trip was planned months ago and when Ashley and Aiden came for a last minute visit to PA, we were happy to have them come along.

Though we all had a great time being together, I must say I am a bit saddened by our trip because it POURED for 2 of our 3 days there.  I just love going to the beach, it is so relaxing to me.   I have been looking forward to this trip for months and must admit I've daydreamed about the time spent relaxing there.   I love everything about the water, the sun, even the sand.  The rain was so heavy at times we could hardly see out of the windows of the house we were staying in.  So instead of the beach we watched some tv, did some shopping, and just a tad bit of moping;  :)  (me probably being the worst of everyone!!)

I am very grateful that the first day there we did get some time on the water.  It was a tad overcast and did dump on us a bit but other than that it was a perfect day at the beach.  If I had known this would have been our only opportunity to be at the water, I would have made us stay until sunset!!

The girls found SO MANY shells and were so excited about it.

Little Mr. had a good nap on the beach in spite of the downpour.  Poor Ashley was hovering over him with boogie boards and towels to keep him dry and asleep.  It worked!!

My sweet girls and our first evening at the boardwalk.  I sure do love them.

This little girl had so much fun in spite of the rain.  She was happy to do whatever.

I love this picture that Ashley got with her phone!

Day number 2 it cleared off and the rain stopped towards the evening.  The girls got a little time at the pool and another evening at the boardwalk.

Good-bye

A few hours ago we said good-bye to this precious little blondie and his lovely mama.  I have weeks of catching up to do on this blog.  I hope I can make it happen!
