I was right...

A number of weeks ago Aaron had a bad fall off of our bed.  The next morning he woke up in a lot of pain and kept telling me that his bone hurt.  "The bone" was his collar bone.  I couldn't even touch it, he could not lift his arm over his head, it was very hard getting dressed, we couldn't pick him up, etc.  The next day I took him to the doctor, fully expecting the x-ray to show that it was broken.  There was nothing on the x-ray.  This continued for another week, Aaron constantly telling me that his bone hurt and all these other things still going on (not being able to use his arm w/out pain).  I called the doc back and she sent me to an orthopedic doc.  Another x-ray, nothing showing up.  They told us it could be a fractured growth plate in his shoulder which would not show up on the x-ray.  Didn't make sense to me b/c the pain was very clearly coming directly from his collar bone.  I kept thinking that something had to be going on.  I have never had a kid tell me that their bone hurt.  He was obviously in severe pain but nothing was showing up.

Yesterday we went back yet again for a follow-up appointment.  A couple of weeks ago a large bump formed on his collar bone.  Sure enough, the doc confirmed my suspicions.  The bump is evidence that there was some sort of fracture and that it is now healing.  They did another x-ray which still did not show a fracture, but the bump was proof.  It's kinda silly, but it made me feel better, like I'm not this wacko mom who kept thinking that there was something wrong with me kid and he was really ok, like just a bruise or something.  Thankfully he is feeling much better now and his using his arm at full function.

Here is the pic from yesterday, it doesn't show much, just his cute little bones.  If you look closely on the left hand side, you can see "the bump" right outside of his rib cage.

She won

For all you mama bird sympathists (sp?? Is that even a word?) out there, the mama bird won.  On Monday there were 2 eggs in the nest. I have not touched it and promise to let her do her thing.  BUT, the other day Aaron and Greta went out to check on the nest and one of the eggs were gone.  I really don't think they touched it.  Aaron is a bit of a rule policeman, I really think he would have told me if Greta did it.  Anyway, so there is one little egg in the nest.  I haven't seen the bird in awhile so not sure if we have scared her away or not.

Easter Eve

Normally Steve has to work on Saturdays but b/c of his retreat earlier in the week, he had this past one off. What a treat!  We decided to have a nice breakfast together, have Bible time, let the kids dye eggs, and give them their baskets while we were all together.  It was a very fun morning together as a family.

FYI, I get the slacker mom award for our egg dying.  All I did was water and food coloring, hence the very blah eggs.  They didn't know any different and had a blast.

Easter Day

After church yesterday we headed down to my parents for the afternoon.  It was a GORGEOUS day, quite hot actually.  But I'll take it any day over the cold and rain.
My parents backyard was covered in violets.  Not sure if it's simply b/c dad needs to mow or b/c of all the extra rain.  But it was fun to take some pics there.  It was very muddy so I didn't get as many as I would have liked.

This cracks me up.  She didn't want to open her eyes b/c she was looking directly into the sun.  She looks like she should be in a hair care commercial.

My best attempt at a group shot in the violets.  A boy who would not smile and a girlie who would not sit b/c it was too wet.

Not so much the "hair care commercial type".

Probably the most aggressive egg hunter.

And probably the least aggressive egg hunter.

And most certainly the most aggressive candy eater.

No, I was not wearing lime green flip flops as a part of my Easter get-up.  They were for the wet grass.

It's snowing!

Seriously?

So I'm really not intending to turn this into a nature blog, but I have one determined mama bird on my hands.  And can you tell that I have having a really hard time getting a consistent exposure on this crazy pot on my porch??
Nest #3

Nest #4

And yes, nest #5.  This one is not really a nest, more of a pile of straw.

Black Rock

Steve was gone again to Black Rock for a retreat earlier this week.  We went down for an evening to join him.  I think the kids wish we would live there.

Beautiful Day

We were more than happy to have a warm, sunny day today.  They have been too few and far between this spring.  This was what we did this afternoon...
Appreciated and destroyed nature.  Claudia noticed that a bird made a nest in my pot of pansies.  It was quite amazing the detailed work involved.  But, I paid good money for my pansies and did not want to see them die.  So...good-bye nest.

Enjoyed the warmth.  And no, this was not posed.  They really were laying this way.

Desperately tried to scale the rock wall.

Enjoyed the green.  I am not in love with this picture of myself but I have been reading more and more about the importance as a mom of putting yourself in photos.  So here I am, in all my profile glory.

Looked cute as she counted the stones.

Allowed the kids to fulfill their love of heights.

Had a nature lesson about the budding trees.
