Last Sunday I was getting Josiah dressed for church, it was one of the first times I had put his dressy long pants on him this fall. I thought his pants fit a bit weird and were a funny gray color but that was as far as it went. During prayer after worship, I had him on my lap and was looking at him and saw that there was lace trim on the edge of his pockets. I started giggling and could not stop. Then I saw it on the edge of his cargo pockets and trimmed down the seam of the back of the pants. It struck me so funny, the poor boy wearing lace trimmed grayish purple cargo pants. Thankfully the lace was pretty matted, it needed a good iron. Hopefully I was the only one who noticed!

Brave Girl
Today this sweet little girl had to get her immunizations updated. I was nervous going into the appointment, she didn't know it was coming. She was cheerful and happy through the whole check up. When the doc left and we were waiting for the nurse to come back with the needles, I whispered to Greta that she would need to get 2 shots. I could tell she was scared but she did amazing. She sat there perfectly still and even said it didn't hurt! Not even any tears for my brave little thing.
It's funny because I have very distinct memories of the 5 year old shot appointment with all my other ones. Claudia was brave, had small tears through it. Morgan was brave, small tears when it was over. Her little lip turned up and she said, "Mom, that hurt." Aaron was in a league of his own. Another wise and loving parent who will remain unnamed thought it would be best to prepare his son ahead of time so he knew going into it that he would be getting shots. When the time came he flipped out so bad I think the walls of the doctor's office were rattling. I was super pregnant with Josiah and needed another nurse to help hold him down!! He even threw up on the way home he was so worked up!!! Aaron laughs about it now, today he was telling the nurse how bad he cried when he got his shots.
Glad it's over, glad for a good day at the doc!!

Happenings
*I often struggle with what to feed the kids for lunch. Our mornings are so full with school and chores most days I haven't even given it a thought. The other day I made a salad bar for the kids. I wasn't sure how the kids would respond but they loved it. Makes my day when I score like that! As I was making her salad, Greta informed me that she does not like the 'oke of her hard boiled egg, she just wanted the white part.
*It's 6:13 a.m. and all my kids are still sleeping. That's a big deal around here. I am grateful for these mornings where the sun is still not shining.
*My kids have always been a bit obsessed with Playmobile (sp?) but I've never bought it for them. I recently had a friend from church babysit and she brought bins of it and she let us keep it for a few extra days. Aaron was in heaven.
*This school year I have been teaching Greta how to read. I've used the same method for all my kids, a book entitled, Teach Your Child to Read in 100 Easy Lessons. We are a quarter of the way through the book and it's so fun to see her little mind take off. Yesterday she read, "The cat is sad. The cat is sick."

Water park
This year Aaron learned to swim and it was so exciting for me. We spent a lot of time swimming that week and he did great seeing how far he could swim underwater. He also did great at the water park, he spent much of his time going on the tube slides.
A favorite of the older girls was the wave. I can't remember exactly what it was called. Morgan loved it and was quite good at it. She spent most of the day there.
I have to admit that I had my turn or 2 on the wave. It is WAY harder than it looks. I did feel a bit silly, it was more of a young persons hang out, here I am, mom of 5 trying to find my way on the wave. I am so like my dad that way!
Claudia also liked the wave but had more fun on the slides with Aaron.
And little Mr. LOVED the water park!! He would go down these slides over and over again. It was so cute.
Horrible mom of the year moment. I wanted to get a picture of him going down the slide. Well, I forgot that he needs help getting out of the water. As soon as I snapped this picture I realized I needed to grab him!! Oops!

Harvest
This little guy was thrilled with what went on across the street yesterday.
An interesting part of living at our house is if you turn 90 degrees, you will see a very, very different way of harvesting the field. The Amish slave away with their horse and gas powered equipment. Diversity in the county, folks.

Frisbee Golf
The resort we stayed at had a frisbee golf course on the ski slopes! It was such a pretty time of year to be there, the leaves were just starting to turn.
We played the course in 2 days, frisbee golf with 5 kids and a stroller not meant for the rugged outdoors was a bit of a workout!! I think Steve many have carried the stroller more than he pushed it.

Family Time
We returned yesterday from a wonderful week away as a family. A very dear family in our church blessed us by giving us their week at a timeshare resort in Massanutten, VA. I don't know that our family has ever had a week away, just us. It was so, so nice. We did lots of swimming, taking walks, hanging out on the playground and other fun things.
I must say I am a bit sad to be home this morning with my husband back at work. It was a treat to have him all to ourselves this week!!
I didn't take a ton of pictures this week, but I do have a few to post. Here we all are on the porch of our little condo.

Youth Group
It is hard to believe that my oldest is now old enough to attend youth group. It has been such an exciting transition for her. The first day, Claudia and her good friend dressed alike. To say they were excited is a severe understatement!!
