Me: "I like you, Greta."
G: "I like you too. Mom....do you like me better than Aaron?"
Me: "No, I like you both the same."
G: "Oh. I thought you liked me better." Sigh.
Me: "Why do you think I like you better than Aaron?"
G: "Because I am nicer than him."

Greta's 5th birthday
Today our sweet Greta turns 5. We had a party for her on Saturday and she was a bit confused that we were not doing her birthday again today. She wanted all the girls to come back.
This was Greta's first year having a "real" party. About a year ago I asked Claudia if she would like to plan the party. You would have thought I'd given the girl a million dollars. She was so excited to plan this day for Greta.
It did not take long for the 2 of them to develop the theme into a "fancy" party. Claudia spent hours thinking and thinking about how to make this a special time for Greta. She found treasures at yard sales to decorate with. She really did an amazing job.

Out of the Mouths
We have a very, very sassy little almost 5 year on in our midst. She is sweet as sugar but full of opinions and very committed to her way being right. One of our current issues is helping her be grateful for what she is given and not complain.
Upon awaking Greta always wants a bowl of cereal. Many morning she gets what she wants but other mornings I tell her she needs to wait b/c I am making ___. (pancakes, oatmeal, etc.) This morning I told her she had to wait b/c I was making french toast. The complaining started and Aaron jumped in and began telling her that french toast was worth waiting for. (It was actually really a cute moment. He was saying, "Greta, some really good things take time. Baked oatmeal takes awhile to make, but it's really good and so you have to wait for it!")
Greta's response to his line of reasoning: "I did not wake up for french toast. I woke up for cereal!!"
