Dirty Job

I'm no pro at construction, but it seems there are some jobs that are a little more enjoyable than others. I could tell that all the Heitland boys got a raz out of banging the holes in the walls and setting the trusses. Nobody really wanted to shingle the roof but they "got her done". Well, I think that Steve had the worst of the worst tonight. This was how my sweet hubby spent his Sat. evening:

This pic does not accurately portray the madness of sanding drywall. He had all these holes in the ceiling from running the new electrical so there was much patching to do. Tonight he sanded the whole kitchen ceiling and was able to get a coat of primer on. The sanding created a horrible mess. My whole kitchen was covered in this:

Everywhere I touch, sit feels like it has chalk dust all over it. But, it's part of the process. Thank you, Steve, for working so hard. This will soon look amazing!

Field Trip

Last week my girls got free tickets to go and see "In the Beginning" at Sight and Sound (it's a huge Christian theater close by). My aunt works there and got us back stage tour passes. So yesterday we spent the morning there together. We had a good time seeing all that goes into the show. Thanks, Aunt Linda!!

Helper Dude

Since seeing all the construction around here some little man thinks he is a big help as well. How cute is this plastic tool belt??

Our soon-to-be porch has a working light and half a ceiling. Hopefully to be completed tonight!!

Buds in the Tub

Our friends the Priviteras came to see us this weekend to bring pizza and check out the progress of our house. Greta and Cianna, just a few months apart, got some tub time together.

Cianna looking cute, Greta got cropped

I love the stunned look on Greta's face, like, "what is that thing on my head..."

Greta got cropped again

Siding is started

Steve was able to finish a wall today on the back of the garage b/c there were no windows needed there. I LOVE the look with our new siding and shingles. I can't wait to see the whole thing.

Good -bye Crew

We said our good-byes this morning to the last of Steve's family. Dad and Jeremy left late Friday afternoon and then Seth and Keely are in Philly spending the day and then will fly out tomorrow. Thank you so much Dad and Bev, Jeremy, Seth and Keely for giving of your time and energies to help us get this far. It was a blast having you all here. We will miss your company.

We have had a crazy busy few weeks and I think all of us are looking forward to a little more "normal", although it will not be for a long time! The guys got a ton of work done but there is still a ton left to do. Steve will have a very busy fall trying to get the rest done. Our windows are on back order and will arrive in a few weeks. After that we will be able to put the new siding on the house and then the outside will be mostly done (except for all the landscaping... but that's a whole nother time...).

Many of you have asked me about Steve's fall into the bathroom. He didn't exactly "fall" into the bathroom, just his leg did. His only injuries were a scraped shin.

We had our biggest construction injury of the week last night. Seth and Keely and our family went to Five Guys for supper and then hit Home Depot for a few things. Seth and Steve were loading the truck and somehow Seth dropped a piece of plywood on his foot (wearing sandles). His big toe took looked like a bloody golf ball. It was pretty swollen and the nail is completely off. Hope you get better soon, Seth!! Last night as I was putting Aaron to bed we were praying and Aaron prayed that, "Uncle Seth would learn not to drop wood on his foot." It was pretty funny.

I'm sure my progress pics will be slowing waaaay down now. Steve's got lots of little things to do to make things weather tight and then insulate, drywall, laying our new floor (can't wait for that!!), etc. Thank to everybody for all your encouragement, visits, food drop-offs, and help!! It's fun to have people be excited for us.

Here is a pic of Morgan dumpster diving. She was all upset yesterday b/c she couldn't find her nail collection. Someone had thrown it in the dumpster. Imagine that!! Here she is thrilled to have found her rusty, bent nail collection. What a kid.

The roof is DONE!

Today was a loooong day on the roof for the guys. Everyone was pretty tuckered out after a long week of very hard work. The finally "got her done" well after dark. That is a huge step for us!

The guys borrowed my uncle's tractor to lift the shingles onto the roof. Aaron was thrilled to be getting a ride with Uncle Seth

Yes, Claudia is sewing on the roof.
