dark side. For what ever reason, every year they call my name, I adore
their cuteness, and think that it will create some wonderful atmosphere
in my home. I always stubbornly refuse to buy the premade stuff, I insist
on mixing my own.
So for whatever reason, it was snowing today... the romantic side of me
began to be teased by the thought of me and my children happily cutting
out and decorating shapes. Let's just say it was all downhill from there.
2 containers of sprinkles all over the floor, cookies all stuck to the tray,
dough that is too thin, too think, stuck to the table and broken shapes,
trying to teach Aaron that the cookies need to be baked before they are
eaten. Uggh.
The best part of the day was this adorable shot of Aaron rolling the cookies

Moments later he was dumping sprinkles on the table. Obviously
it was my fault, I was too busy trying to get cute picts of him to
notice that he was about to dump sprinkles all over the place!!

Morgan faithfully cleaning up after her brother

Good ol' Clauida doing the job well

The finished product. There may be 3 or 4 unbroken ones in the whole batch.

They look about the same as ours. :)
ReplyDeleteYour kiddos will remember that you were the wonderful kind of mom that took the time to make cookies with them......they won't remember the imperfect cookies that just get eaten right away anyway.
This is one of those times that it really is the thought that counts. The problems won't be remembered for long but the fun will.
ReplyDeleteToday we made cookies with my mom, my sister-in-law, my daughters, my grandson, Adalie's little guy she babysits, etc etc. We go to my parents and we again made a huge mess like every year. But my parents graciously let us move in and totally trash the place, then take our loot at the end of the day, all of us tired but happy having spent the day together stirring up lots of cookies and even more memories. (We do help clean up.)
I'm glad you chose to do that with your little clan today. Soon they'll be helping with clean up too. (It looks like they already are!)
By the way, I love the NYC pictures, the Tina pictures, etc. Adalie and I just went to NYC last week too, just for the day. Love your blog.
So funny! I got a similar idea yesterday but kept it simple with the "No Bake" cookies and it still was quite a disaster! Lots of screaming and fighting over who does what, oh well....they still taste okay! :)
ReplyDeletei love it!!! hilarious. that pic of aaron dumping the sprinks is classic. the pic is worth the cleanup in my opinion:) so fun. xo
ReplyDeletesuch a great post! it made me laugh. =) i'm sure your kids had fun...& the cookies still tasted yummy even if they weren't perfectly shaped. tis the season!
ReplyDelete(did you know that i read your blog? =))
As Abby always says, "it's okay for bakers to get dirty." Hence, where most of our baking projects end up:) Keep at it Lori, as we get older all the little things won't bump our cup as much and we will be able to smile and enjoy these precious moments. Life is going way too fast to wait until they won't make messes . . . just count it as a full day of school--just think of how much training and teaching happened in that one project. Love you friend--Brenda
ReplyDeleteI found that these cookies were the hardest of the year!! Ours all broke apart and the kids thought it was the greatest thing ever...
